** Because of the constantly changing nature of the U.S. prescription and OTC drug marketplace, this list may not reflect the ful range of drugs that may impact blood glucose levels. The information contained in this document is intended as an educational aid only. It is not intended as medical advice for individual conditions or treatment. It is not a substitute for a medical exam, nor does it replace the need for services provided by medical professionals. Talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter drugs (including any herbal medicines or supplements) or fol owing any treatment or regimen.
***There are many other OTC and prescription medications that contain pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine.
Notes: 1) The ACEI and ARB drugs are preferred antihypertensive agents in people with diabetes. The combinations of those agents with thiazide diuretics are also commonly used in patients with diabetes. Although thiazides may have a tendency to affect blood sugar, the smal er doses used in these combinations may have little or no effect on blood sugars and may actual y be needed to control blood pressure.
2) Gatifloxacin (Tequin) is longer manufactured because of its serious adverse effects on blood glucose. It is stil available for sale on some online pharmacies.
