The following scholarships are available in Guidance. If you are interested in receiving an application or further information about one of the listed scholarships, see your counselor.
1. ALLSTATE MINDS IN MOTION SCHOLARSHIP- The Maryland Public Secondary Schools
Athletic Association is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for graduating high school athletes. The scholarships worth $1000 each will be awarded to four female and four male senior scholar athletes who attend a MPSSAA school and participate in MPSSAA recognized sports. The scholarship will be awarded toward post secondary education for qualifying applicants and will be presented to the eight winners at a luncheon on May 19, 2008. The application, with requirements, is on the publication page of the website at The application is very simple and is filled out and submitted online. Deadline is noon April 19, 2008. 2. Bowie State University Alumni Association Scholarship The Frederick-Carroll chapter of Bowie
State University Alumni Association offers a $1000 award to a Carroll County resident who plans to attend BSU. Candidate must have at least a 2.5 GPA, be of high moral and ethical character, and have a genuine desire for college training and a real financial need. Applications must be received no later than April 7, 2007 See Ms. Cunningham for more information. 3. CAPTAIN MICHAEL S. LAWLOR SCHOLARSHIP – One scholarship up to $5,000 to a North
Carroll High senior planning to attend Towson University. Academic record, essay, two letters of recommendation, and an interview are selection criteria. Applications are available in the Guidance office. Deadline: April 30, 2008 to Ms. Cunningham.
4. Carroll Association of School Employees Scholarship Fund A scholarship will be awarded to a
child, stepchild or grandchild of C.A.S.E. The student must be in good academic standing, have been accepted into an accredited college, university or technical college. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need. The student shall demonstrate exemplary character and leadership. Information and applications are available in Guidance. Deadline is May 1, 2008.
5. Carroll Community College- Applications are available in guidance for several scholarships for
North Carroll Graduates. A separate application must be completed for each scholarship: a. Commissioner Student Leadership Scholarship- $1000 awarded to one graduate at each high school. Student must be a full-time, degree-seeking student, have a 2.5 GPA and have made a significant contribution to high school and community activities. A one page typed essay on a question listed in the application is required. b. The Langdon Family Endowed Scholarship- $1000 to one senior who has a 2.5 GPA, shows a financial need and is a full-time degree seeking student. c. Additional scholarships through the college are also listed in the application. DEADLINE for all applications are April 15, 2008
6. CARROLL COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL: TEVIS ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS- One $600
scholarship will be available to each public high school in Carroll County for a high school senior pursuing a degree in the arts. The award is based on artistic promise and financial need. One award will be the Anne Miller Scholarship and will be presented to a student pursuing a degree in visual arts. Applications are available in Guidance Deadline is April 18, 2008.
7. CARROLL COUNTY ASSOCIATION FOR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP- A $500 Scholarship will be awarded to a resident of Carroll County who will be graduating this year. The winner will be based on need, academic standing and extracurricular activities. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: Postmarked by April 15, 2008. 8. CARROLL COUNTY FARM Bureau 2008 SCHOLARSHIP- Two $1000 scholarships will be
awarded to high school seniors who will be attending full time any community college, technical school or four year institute. One scholarship will be given to someone with an agriculture major and one scholarship will be given to any major. Students must complete the application, attach a transcript and write an essay on “Shy do you feel agriculture should be preserved in Carroll County?”. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline is June 1, 2008.
9. CARROLL COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – A $500 scholarship for a Carroll Co. senior who played football with the C.C.F.L. for at least three years. Student must have post-secondary plans. Deadline: April 30, 2008. 10. CARROLL COUNTY READING COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP – A $300 scholarship
for a graduating senior who plans to major in reading or a reading related field and pursue coursework that will prepare him/her for a teaching career. Financial is a major criteria. Return to Ms. Cunningham by May 16, 2008.
11. CARROLL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SCHOLARSHIP- A $500 Scholarship will be
awarded to a senior who possess a minimum gpa of a 3.25, needs financial assistance, has expressed an interest in law enforcement and has been accepted to a two or four year accredited college. Applications are available in guidance. DEADLINE to Guidance is April 11, 2008.
12. CARROLL COUNTY VOLUNTEER EMERGENCY SERVICE – A scholarship opportunity for
a graduating senior with EMS/fire service affiliation, be a relative of a bona fide volunteer or paid EMS/firefighter in a member company of the Carroll county Volunteer Emergency Association. Deadline: April 15, 2008.
13. Carroll County 4-H Livestock Club Scholarship- Seniors who are currently a 4-H member in
Carroll County who have shown or exhibited livestock in Carroll County are eligible. Applicants must submit a Senior Record Book from previous year’s 4-H work. Applications and more information are available in guidance. Deadline is June 15, 2008.
14. CARROLL PLAYERS – One, $500 award to any Carroll County senior pursuing the dramatic arts
in college. Student does not need to major in Drama; however, the career and major must involve the dramatic arts in some capacity. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2008
15. CATHERINE ANNE MULLIKIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – One, $1,000 scholarship for
a North Carroll High Senior planning to pursue an Education Major. Academic record, SAT/ACT scores, recommendations, essays are some selection criteria. Two non-family letters of recommendation are required. Deadline: Postmarked by April 10, 2008.
16. CENTRALSCHOLARSHIP BUREAU Grants and loans are available through this privately funded

planning to attend Carroll Community College (three scholarships) or McDaniel College (three scholarships). Students should be planning to pursue a major in business, economics, accounting, human resources development or another business related field. Financial need and involvement in community affairs are additional selection criteria. 18. DAVID STEGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – Up to $4,000 to a NCH senior planning to
attend any of the eleven public universities in Maryland that comprise the University System of Maryland. See Ms. Cunningham for clarification if needed. Financial need, grades and extra- curricular are selection criteria. Deadline: April 11, 2008 19. Debbie Peregoy Scholarship – Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to a senior who has
maintained a 2.5 GPA and has college worthy SAT Scores. A student must be committed to community service and exhibit good character, heart and work ethic. All majors are considered however anyone planning on majoring in special education will be given extra consideration. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline is May 1, 2008. 20. FASHION GROUP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- This scholarship is designed for students
majoring in fashion, fashion related fields, or interior design with awards of up to $5000 for one academic year. Applicants must have demonstrated academic achievement and involvement in the fashion field and have been admitted to an accredited college or university with a major in a fashion related field. Applications must be post marked no later than April 19, 2008. 21. George, Miles & Buhr, Architects and Engineers Scholarships- This company is
sponsoring two scholarships for high school seniors worth $1000 each. One scholarship is for e students planning on pursuing a degree in architecture and one for a student planning on pursuing a degree in civil engineering. The same application is used for both scholarships. Applications are due in Guidance. Deadline for scholarship to be received in the office is Friday April 18, 2008. 22. JUNCTION’S GERTIE GROSS SCHOLARSHIP – A scholarship award to a high school senior
who best exemplifies a drug free lifestyle. Excellence in scholastics, extra-curricular, prevention activities and community involvement are additional selection criteria. HAMPSTEAD BUSINESS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP – A, $1,000.00 scholarship for a
North Carroll High senior planning to major in business at a Maryland college or university. Other considerations being equal, preference will be given to a student who has participated in the Career Connections Program. Deadline TO Guidance is April 11, 2008. 25. HAMPSTEAD LIONS/LIONESS SCHOLARSHIPS - Three $1,500.00 scholarships to North
Carroll High Seniors planning to pursue post-secondary education. Financial need, academic achievement and extra-curricular activities are some selection criteria. Deadline: April 9, 2008 to the Guidance Office 26. I. VIRGINIA MURRAY AND E. CARROLL MURRAY SCHOLARSHIP – One, $2,500
scholarship to a NCH senior who exemplifies excellence in scholastic ability, academic program, extra-curricular, leadership and community service. Student must be planning to further education at a four-year college/university. Deadline: April 11, 2008. 27. IRA ROSENZWOG SCHOLARSHIP- Grants ranging from $500-$2000 annually are presented to
seniors with epilepsy who wish to continue their education. For an application, see Ms. Cunningham in guidance. Applications are due April 20, 2008.
28. John J.Mazur, Jr. Memorial 4-H Scholarship- Seniors who are a present or former 4-H member in
Carroll County, been accepted to a college or post-secondary school and have carried a livestock or photography project in 4-H. Information and application are available in Guidance. Deadline is June 15, 2008
29. KARL L. HENDRICKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND – A scholarship award to a
North Carroll High graduating senior who has been accepted at an accredited college, university or Technical School. Student should be pursuing studies in teaching, family and consumer sciences or technology. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline to Ms Cunningham in Guidance is April 15, 2008. 30. KATHLEEN TWIGG SCHOLARSHIP – One, $500. scholarship to a NCH senior who answers a
series of questions regarding our American Heritage. Student must be planning to further his/her education. Sponsored by Hampstead American Legion Auxiliary Post 200. Deadline: April 11, 2008 31. KEPPRA FAMILY EPILEPSY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – 20, $5,000 scholarships to family
members or caregivers of epilepsy patients. Applicants must be high school senior planning to continue post-secondary education in Fall 2008. Academic record and extra-curricular activities are additional criteria. Vis. Deadline May 2, 2008
32. KIDS CHANCE OF MARYLAND- These scholarships are awarded to students that has had a
parent injured or killed on the job in the state of Maryland. Award amounts vary depending on the or picked up in the guidance office.
33. LINEBORO-MANCHESTER LIONS SCHOLARSHIP – Two, 1,000.00 scholarships to be
awarded to two North Carroll High seniors planning post-secondary education. Academic program, SAT/ACT scores, extra-curricular and financial need are some selection criteria. STUDENTS MUST LIVE IN THE MANCHESTER VOTING DISTRICT Deadline: Postmarked by April 10, 2008
34. MAKING IT COUNT’S WINNING CHARACTERISTICS SCHOLARSHIP- Seniors who have
exhibited excellence based on the “Winning Characteristics” highlighted in the Making It Count presentation may apply. One $5000 and five $1000 regional awards will be given. A student must have a “B” average and planning on going for post secondary training. For more information and to
35. MANCHESTER AREA MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION – A $1,000 scholarship for a high school
senior that has demonstrated an interest in the business world and plans to pursue a major in business. Applicant must live within the Manchester zip code 21102. Academic program, recommendations, community service are some selection criteria. Deadline: May 1, 2008
36. Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals- Ken Mann Scholarship- A $1000
scholarship award is offered to a high school senior who is planning on majoring in Elementary Education. Student must be attending a college or university in Maryland. A completed application along with a written statement as to your beliefs and commitment toward educating all students, transcripts with SAT or ACT test scores and two letters of recommendation are required. Applications are in guidance. Deadline: Post marked by April 9, 2008
37. MARYLAND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION- 5 $1000 scholarships will be
awarded to students pursuing a career in Emergency Management or a related field. Applications and additional information is available in guidance. Deadline is April 15, 2008. 38. MARYLAND MUNCIPAL LEAGUE, INC. CARROLL COUNTY CHAPTER- The Carroll
County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League will offer three $1000 scholarships to Carroll County high school students who have been accepted into a college or university. Preference will be given to students preparing for a career in governmental or public service. Applicants must live in one of the eight incorporated municipalities in Carroll County, complete the student scholarship application and prepare a written essay on the importance/function of municipal government in the community. Applications can be picked up in gu. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday May 16, 2008. 39. NAVY RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS SCHOLARSHIPS Students selected for the
program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selective process, and receive full tuition and other financial benefits at over 100 of the country’s leading colleges and universities. For more inform pick up information in the Guidance Office.
40. NAACP SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarships to minority students of African-American descent
graduating from a public Carroll County High School. Student must be planning to pursue post- secondary education. Academic achievement, school/community activities are some selection criteria. See Ms. Cunningham for an application. Deadline: April 19, 2008 41. NORTH CARROLL ATHLETIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIPS – An award to a North Carroll
High senior who plans to be a full-time student at a two or four year college, family member of NCH booster and has belonged to and participated in at least one NCH athletic team. Additional information and applications are available in guidance. Deadline: April 30, 2008
42. NORTH CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS – One or more awards up to $1,500 for
NCH seniors. Applicants are judged on FINANCIAL NEED, academic standing, extra-curricular involvement and intent on attending a post-secondary college or trade school. Deadline: April 11, 2008.
43. NORTH CARROLL RECREATION COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS – The North Carroll
Recreation Council (NCRC) will again offer scholarships in the amount of up to $1,500 to any qualified high school senior. This scholarship was established to reward graduating seniors who actively participated in any NCRC program or contributed as a volunteer and wish to further their education. Application forms and additional information may be obtained from the North Carroll High School Guidance Office or the North Carroll Branch of the Carroll County Library. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before April 15, 2008. 44. PAUL GARRETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – One, $500. Scholarship to a NCH senior who
answers a series of questions regarding our American Heritage. Student must be planning to future his/her education. Sponsored by Hampstead American Legion Post 200. Deadline: April 11, 2008. 45. ROTARY CLUB OF HAMPSTEAD ENDOWMENT FUND SCHOLARSHIP – Four, $750.00
awards to a North Carroll High seniors planning to continue their education. A 300 word essay on community service performed and its importance to student and community will be used for selection. Deadline: May 1, 2008. 46. Ryan Mackenzie Memorial 4-H Scholarship- Seniors who are members of a 4-H club in Carroll
County and have exhibited sheep at the Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair for at least one year along with complying with current record keeping requirements for the Carroll County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale. Applications and information are in Guidance. Complete applications, grade transcripts, and record book/portfolios are due to the Carroll County 4-H office by June 30, 2008.
47. Scott E. Shipley Memorial Career and Technology Scholarship Fund- This scholarship will be
awarded to student of CCCTC Diesel Tech program to further their training in schools of higher education or a certified program to enhance their capacities in Diesel Tech. STATE OF MARYLAND INTERNATIONAL READING ASSOCIATION COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP (Joseph Fox Jr. Memorial Scholarship) – $1,000 award to a high school senior who plans to major in reading or a reading related field and pursue course work that will lead to a teaching career. Community service in educational related activities or organizations is one of the selection criteria. Deadline: April 15, 2008. 49. State of Maryland House of Delagates Scholarships Students must be Maryland residents enrolled
in a 2 or 4 year Maryland college or technical school. You must complete and file the FAFSA form by March 1. You will also need to contact Delegates Tanya Shewell and Nancy Stocksdale’s offices at 1-800-492-7122 ext 3371 to obtain an application. Awards are based on financial need. Please verify deadlines with the office.
50. State of Maryland Senatorial Scholarships- Students must be Maryland residents enrolled in a 2 or
4 year Maryland college or technical school. You must complete and file the FAFSA form by March 1. You will also need to contact Senator Larry Haines office at 1-800-492-7122 ext 3683 to obtain an application. Awards are based on financial need. Deadline for this application is mid April. 51. Stephen “Stevie” Beall Memorial Scholarship Fund- A Scholarship will be awarded to student(s)
who is graduating or is a continuing student attending Towson University or Villa Julie College. The student must have a gpa of a 3.0 or above, majoring in History, English, Political Science, Professional Writing, Mass Communication and/or Communications Studies. The award will be based on financial need. A letter of recommendation and 500 word essay are required. Deadline to Ms. Cunningham is April 11, 2008. 52. Student Insights- The 2007 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering one $3000 scholarship,
two $1000 scholarships and six $500 scholarships by completing a 15-20 minute survey about colleges in our area. Log onto te. Scholarships will be awarded by random drawings. Deadline is April 22, 2008.
53. SUNTRUST OFF TO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP SWEEPSTAKES – High school seniors can
win a $1,000 scholarship for their first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2006 through May 11, 2007. Students may register at offtocollege.info. Only one entry per person for each drawing, however students can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing.
54. THE COREY REDDING SCHOLARSHIP FUND-A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a
graduating senior who has a 3.0 GPA, financial need and has been accepted to an accredited college, university, or technical school. A letter of recommendation and short essay are part of the requirements. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline to Guidance is April 11, 2008. 55. THE ELLEN AND PAUL ADLER SCHOLARSHIP- This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a
North Carroll High School student who will be attending Carroll Community College. The student must be full-time degree seeking and must have a 2.5 GPA in high school. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned to Guidance by April 15, 2008. 56. The JAY A. GRAYBEAL SCHOLARSHIP – A scholarship opportunity for college bound high
school seniors or student currently enrolled in undergraduate studies or pursuing post-graduate studies in general history or a specialty area of studies in history to include but not limited to; museums, archival, library, historic preservation, and material culture. Additional information and applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2008. 57. The J.O.S.H Foundation Scholarship- This scholarship is a $1000 scholarship for a student who has
suffered a loss of an immediate family member (parent, step-parent, sibling) and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit an essay explaining who in their family passed away and how the loss impacted their life and future. Applications and information is available in Guidance. Deadline: April 15, 2008
58. THE SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON SECTION –
Scholarship awards for young women who reside in the metropolitan Maryland/Washington, D.C. area and plan to major in engineering. Student must be a high school senior. Information about the SWE-BWS and the local scholarship program caou will be linked to the national scholarships for women planning on majoring in Engineering. The deadline toapply for national freshman scholarships is May 15, 2008.
59. Town of Hampstead Scholarship- Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students who reside
within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Hampstead. Applicants must be a North Carroll Student who has been accepted into a college or university, have a “B” average or better in high school. The applicant must have demonstrated a commitment to the community. Scholarships are based on financial need. Information and Applications are available in Guidance. Applications are due April 30, 2008.
60. The Caila I. T. Finnen Memorial Scholarship- A two year scholarship for a graduating senior at
North Carroll who has been accepted to Carroll Community College. A student must have a 3.0 GPA and college worthy SAT scores. All majors will be considered but special consideration will be given to psychology, early childhood education and special education. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline to Guidance is May 1, 2008. 61. THE FASHION INSTITUTE OF DESIGN & MECHANDISING FIDM awards over $300,000 in
scholarships through a National Scholarship Competition. Students who demonstrate an exceptional talent and interest in Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design Digital Media, Fashion Merchandising or Graphic Design will each win a one-year scholarship to attend FIDM. 62. WOMAN’S CLUB OF HAMPSTEAD FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP – One, $500.00 award to a
NCH senior who has excelled in an area of the fine arts: music, drama, creative writing, dance or art. Student must be planning to attend a college/university. Deadline: April 11, 2007 to the Guidance Office. 63. WORKFORCE SHORTAGE STUDENT ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM This program is
to assist the State of Maryland in meeting the need for well trained and highly skilled workers in the areas of Child Care, Human Services, teaching, nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy, and public service.
Awards of $2000 for Community Colleges and $4000 for 4 year colleges will be awarded. Students and parents must be a Maryland resident, students must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university in the State of Maryland, enrolled in a major listed above and agree to perform the required service obligation or repay the State if the service obligation is not performed. Non-weighted GPA and financial need will be considered. FAFSA must be filed by July 1. Deadline will be July 1, 2008 Applications will be available online in mid_April.
